The art scene in Lyon
Housed in a former abbey on Place des Terreaux, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon holds one of France’s richest collections outside Paris, from antiquity to modern art. North of the centre, the Musée d’Art contemporain (macLYON), in the Cité internationale, presents current work and takes part in the Lyon Biennale of contemporary art, which spreads across several venues in the metropolitan area.
The slopes of the Croix-Rousse, the old district of the canuts, or silk workers, are home to studios, designers and small galleries, and the Mur des Canuts, a huge trompe-l’œil mural, depicts daily life in the neighbourhood. Lyon has many such painted walls, a number of them created by the CitéCréation cooperative. Every December, the Fête des Lumières turns the city into a trail of light installations, a tradition that dates back to the nineteenth century.
With Artblr, you can discover Lyon artists and write to them directly to learn more about a piece. Ask for photos, shipping details or a studio visit in the Croix-Rousse or elsewhere. That direct contact comes with no commission.
