The art scene in Paris
The Louvre, the Musée d’Orsay and the Musée de l’Orangerie trace centuries of art history, while the Palais de Tokyo, the Bourse de Commerce and the Fondation Louis Vuitton focus on contemporary work. Every October, Art Basel Paris sets up in the Grand Palais, and many galleries time their strongest shows for the same week, so the whole city feels like an exhibition.
To meet artists, step off the main boulevards. The Marais and Saint-Germain-des-Prés hold much of the gallery scene, but Belleville and Ménilmontant are where many studios are, and Belleville’s annual open-studio weekend lets you walk right in. 59 Rivoli, a former artists’ squat turned public studio building, is free to visit. In Montmartre, Place du Tertre keeps alive the tradition of painters working outdoors, and the 13th arrondissement has become known for its large-scale murals.
On Artblr, you can browse work by Paris artists, filter by medium or price and contact them directly. If a piece speaks to you, arrange a studio visit on your next trip. That direct contact comes with no commission.
