The art scene in Brussels
The Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, on the Mont des Arts, bring together Flemish masters from Bruegel to Rubens, plus an entire museum dedicated to René Magritte. The Belgian Comic Strip Center, housed in an Art Nouveau building designed by Victor Horta, shows how central comics are to Belgian culture. Out on the streets, the Comic Book Route lines up dozens of façades painted with comic characters, an easy walking tour across the city centre.
For contemporary art, WIELS in Forest occupies a former brewery and presents international exhibitions. Galleries are concentrated in Ixelles, around Avenue Louise, and in the Dansaert district downtown. Every spring, the Art Brussels fair draws galleries and collectors. Rents that have long been more affordable than in Paris or London have encouraged many foreign artists to open studios in the city.
With Artblr, you can browse work by Brussels artists and contact them directly, in English, French or Dutch depending on their preference. Ask for details, a video or a studio visit. That direct contact is commission-free.
