The art scene in Amsterdam
On the Museumplein, three museums face each other: the Rijksmuseum, home to Rembrandt’s Night Watch and the Dutch Golden Age masters; the Van Gogh Museum, which holds the largest collection of the painter’s work; and the Stedelijk Museum, devoted to modern and contemporary art and design. The Rembrandt House, where the painter lived and worked, is also open to visitors and shows how an artist’s studio functioned in his time.
The Jordaan, a former working-class district of narrow canals, is home to many galleries and studios. Across the IJ, reached by free ferry, the former NDSM shipyard in Amsterdam-Noord has become a creative site with studios, exhibitions and street art. Throughout the year, fairs, festivals and open-studio weekends offer plenty of chances to meet artists where they work.
With Artblr, you can find Amsterdam artists and contact them directly, usually in English. Like a piece? Ask for more photos or a studio visit, and talk through delivery: the artist can explain how they pack and ship their work to Canada or elsewhere. That direct contact is commission-free.
