The art scene in Nice
On the hill of Cimiez, the Musée Matisse pays tribute to the painter who lived and worked in Nice for much of his life. Nearby, the Musée national Marc Chagall presents his Biblical Message cycle in a building designed to house it. Downtown, MAMAC, the museum of modern and contemporary art, gives pride of place to the Nouveaux Réalistes and the School of Nice, with artists such as Yves Klein, Arman and Ben.
The Villa Arson, a national art school and contemporary art centre, trains and exhibits many artists from the region. In Old Nice, narrow lanes and small squares hide studios and little galleries, and the Cours Saleya regularly hosts a flea and antiques market. The coastal light that drew so many painters in the twentieth century still inspires the artists who live there today, and it shows in much of their work.
On Artblr, you can discover artists from Nice and the Côte d’Azur and contact them directly. Ask about a piece, request more photos or arrange a studio visit during your stay. Direct contact comes with no commission.
