The art scene in Barcelona
The Museu Picasso, in El Born, focuses especially on the painter’s formative years, part of which he spent in Barcelona. On Montjuïc hill, the Fundació Joan Miró presents the artist’s work in a building designed by Josep Lluís Sert, and the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC) holds a remarkable collection of Romanesque art. In El Raval, the bright white MACBA is devoted to contemporary art and draws skateboarders to its plaza as much as visitors to its galleries.
Poblenou, a former industrial district, is home to studios, galleries and creative spaces in its old factories. Gràcia, with its small squares, has many studios and designers’ shops. And everywhere, the modernista architecture of Antoni Gaudí and his contemporaries, from the Sagrada Família to Park Güell, is a reminder of how deeply the decorative arts and craftsmanship shape the city’s identity.
On Artblr, you can browse work by Barcelona artists and contact them directly, in English, French or Spanish depending on their preference. Ask for details, a video or a studio visit during your stay. That direct contact is commission-free.
