The art scene in Quebec City
On the Plains of Abraham, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec traces Quebec art from its beginnings to today, with galleries devoted to Inuit art and a striking contemporary pavilion. Inside the walls of Old Quebec, rue du Trésor has long been an open-air lane where artists show and sell their own work, and the Fresque des Québécois near Place Royale tells the city’s story in a large trompe-l’œil mural.
For current work, head down to Saint-Roch. The Méduse complex brings together artist-run centres and cultural organizations, and the surrounding streets hold galleries and studios. The Manif d’art, Quebec City’s contemporary art biennial, takes over museums and public spaces with each edition. In Petit-Champlain, the focus shifts to fine crafts and small boutiques run by makers.
On Artblr, you can find artists from the Quebec City region and message them directly about a piece, its size or how it ships. If you are in town, you can also arrange to see the work in the studio. That direct contact comes with no commission.
