The art scene in Ottawa
The National Gallery of Canada, with its soaring glass hall designed by Moshe Safdie, holds one of the country’s most complete collections of Canadian and Indigenous art. Out front, Louise Bourgeois’s giant spider, Maman, has become a symbol of the city. A few streets away, the Ottawa Art Gallery at Arts Court focuses on artists from the Ottawa and Outaouais region, past and present.
Next door, the ByWard Market mixes artisan shops, cafés and small galleries. Further west, Hintonburg and Wellington West have attracted studios, galleries and independent businesses, with regular exhibitions and open-studio events. Gatineau, just across the river, adds the Canadian Museum of History and more venues to visit, so a weekend in the capital region can easily be filled with art.
With Artblr, you can find artists in Ottawa and the wider capital region, in English and in French. Write to them directly to learn more about a work and, if you wish, arrange a studio visit to see it in person. There is no commission on that direct contact.
