The art scene in Chicago
The Art Institute of Chicago, at the edge of Grant Park, holds an outstanding collection, particularly strong in Impressionist painting and American art. The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, near the lake, focuses on current work. In neighbouring Millennium Park, Anish Kapoor’s Cloud Gate sculpture, better known as The Bean, has become one of the city’s most recognizable images and a natural meeting point.
In Pilsen, a historically Mexican neighbourhood, murals cover many walls and the National Museum of Mexican Art presents the art and traditions of Mexico and its diaspora. The West Loop is home to much of the city’s commercial gallery scene, while neighbourhoods such as Logan Square and Bridgeport hold studios and artist-run spaces. Every fall, EXPO CHICAGO sets up at Navy Pier with galleries from around the world.
On Artblr, you can explore work by Chicago artists and contact them directly. Ask about a piece, its framing or how it ships, and arrange a studio visit when you are in town. That direct contact is commission-free.
