The art scene in Bordeaux
The CAPC, Bordeaux’s contemporary art museum, occupies the Entrepôt Lainé, a former warehouse for colonial goods whose vast central nave frames striking installations. The Musée des Beaux-Arts, near city hall, covers European painting from the fifteenth to the twentieth century. At the Bassins à flot, the former submarine base now houses the Bassins des Lumières, devoted to immersive digital exhibitions.
The Chartrons district, long home to the wine merchants, is now known for its antique dealers, galleries and designer shops, and makes a pleasant walk along the river. On the right bank, Darwin, set in a former military barracks in La Bastide, brings together studios, shared workspaces and walls open to graffiti artists. The whole city, with its historic centre listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, lends itself to strolling from one gallery to the next.
With Artblr, you can find Bordeaux artists, see their work and write to them directly. Interested in a painting? Ask about its technique, size or shipping, and plan a studio visit. That direct contact is commission-free.
