Man of Measure

An appropriate measure in this day an age. It's harder to readdress standards than let them slip. I love Martin Luther King Junior's quote "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of controversy and challenge" This painting is mixed media on canvas, I like to have fun with materials and let them dance on the canvas. It is a feeling of creative freedom that i enjoy the most about painting. I first started out by painting a background that looked vintage. Then I stamped the words, Man of Measure to create the shadow areas of MLK's face. Then I used oil sticks to "scribble" his face and words. There is also a touch of spray paint in the background too.
