//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Marco Henrie was born in Hull (now Gatineau, Québec, Canada) in 1971 where he still lives at the proximity to the city limits and the Gatineau Hills that makes up part of the southern tip of the Canadian Shield. His father, an automobile mechanic by trade, performed his work as if it were an art; his mother was passionate about music and was born of a family very much open to artistic creation. Early on Marco like his father learns the trade of mechanic but at the same time strongly feels the need to explore a completely different universe. He initially pursues his artistic side in Community television, and then experimented with theatre and photography. During the next six years, guitar in hand, he composes songs. Even if he likes music enormously and his compositions know some level of success, he becomes aware that the stage life is not for him. He then decides to continue his artistic endeavour and discovers the art of drawing, and especially abstract painting, at age the 30: it is a self-revelation. With passion, Marco consequently delves into a world of images, of color, of brushes and palette knives. Far from forsaking the music, he integrates it in his creative process. Eric Clapton, Charles Aznavour, Elvis Presley, Tom Waits and so many others become intergrated in the chaos of emotions and images of a forgotten or repressed past which intertwines with the present and ongoing life. Each canvas becomes, for this self-tought artist, an exciting voyage: a dive in the vacuum of the unknown, of hours spent in a timeless void, alone in front of the canvas which takes form as a surprising story and which ends in a painting which at the same time is both recognition and dissociation of oneself. Each painting is the prelude to a new journey, each canvas calls another. In 2006, the death of his father marks a turning in the painter’s life: the reality of death becomes present and results in an urgency “to be” and “to create”, to live the essential; therefore, Marco increasingly devotes himself to his art. The death of his mother in 2010 does nothing but add to his thirst for the absolute. For Marco, to paint is an insatiable search, an inexpressible happiness of creation, a challenge to defy death which is so close, a new step in the search for a painting increasingly more astonishing than the previous, more original and likely to reach a large audience. Marco, convinced he is offering something different to the art world, is ambitious. His many works (more than 150 paintings as well as hundreds of drawings), wants other to take advantage of his work therefore wants to see them displayed, looked at and appreciated all around the world. In 2008, for the first time, his art is exhibited in a gallery: the Calligrammes Gallery, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
