About Yucel Donmez
Giving the name as Contemporary Marble Technique, in 1987 Yücel Dönmez exhibited his works in The Art Institute of Chicago which is one of the three big museums in America. He also had 12 performances presenting his own technique for the visual arts world. Throughout July, thousands of Americans viewed Dönmez’s works during the Suleiman the Magnificent Exhibition events with the sponsorship of the museum. Using the same technique since 1982, Yücel Dönmez was awarded with Chicago’s Very Own Award was Chicago’s own art honour by national channel WGN. After July in 1987, the officials of the museum indicated that the artist who will use Dönmez’s technique could also have imitators and followers, so they wanted him to present his technique by performing during the exhibition. Only the interview in WGN channel was watched by almost 7 million people and Dönmez showed his technique in the interview. Later by the request of Illinois education department, Yucel Dönmez joined to Urban Gateways and for 11 years he took services his art to education. In 1995 with the Urban Gateways, he was awarded with National Medal of Arts by President Clinton. At that time, Dönmez was one of the eight visual artists of Urban Gateways.
