Self taught fine artist Vanessa Penman's earliest memories include painting, sketching, tapestry and pottery. Since she can remember, the process of creation has always occupied her time with much enjoyment.
Born in South Africa and currently living in Auckland, New Zealand, she is constantly creating sketches and paintings which tell a story. Themes of interest include portraiture, landscapes, nature and marine life and lifestyle.
Her technique is raw and totally reliant on spontaneity, freedom and intuition. These values are also ones which inspire her in daily life as a reminder to "stay in the flow". A believer in a "happy mistake" each artwork is never cast in stone before commencement. Rather, they evolve to take on a life of their own, most importantly - telling a story or portraying an emotion.
Impressionist Masters are her inspiration behind rendering images in loose, bright brush strokes and vivid colours. Oil paint being her favorite medium.
