The art scene in Geneva
The Musée d’Art et d’Histoire covers centuries of art, including Konrad Witz’s Miraculous Draught of Fishes, one of the first paintings to depict a recognizable landscape, here Lake Geneva itself. MAMCO, the museum of modern and contemporary art, occupies a former factory in the Quartier des Bains and spreads its collections across several floors. The nearby Centre d’art contemporain rounds things out with shows of emerging artists.
The Quartier des Bains is home to many galleries, which hold joint openings several times a year, a good way to see a lot of exhibitions in a single evening. Across the Arve, Carouge, with its small-town Sardinian feel, welcomes artisans, studios and designers’ shops. Early in the year, the artgenève fair at Palexpo brings together Swiss and international galleries, often alongside a sculpture program in the city.
On Artblr, you can discover artists from Geneva and the Lake Geneva region and contact them directly. Ask about a piece, its price or shipping, and arrange a studio visit if you are in town. That direct contact is commission-free.
