This watercolour painting by Sampson is one of 3 executed in Lindos village (Rhodes island in the Dodecanese, Greece). Painted on location in searing July heat Sampson captures the strong light and reduced colour palette of a hot blindingly sunny environment. The white-washed houses typical of the islands, offer a blank page of basic powerful light effects. Sampson wanted also to re-live distant of years passed...memories of Lindos via a painting interpretation.
Greek Canadian artist Stephanie Sampson studied in the UK, Canada and Greece where she also exhibited and taught. Her preferred painting media are watercolours and oils. The light of Greece guides her work especially in her landscapes which she executes on location in different parts of Greece. She has a BA and an MFA in visual arts.
