Her name was Lana. Lana didn’t ask too many questions. She didn’t demand answers or push for stories. She simply sat there, swinging her legs, talking about small things—clouds that looked like animals, a bird she had seen that morning, how the food tasted funny. And somehow, without realizing it, the shy girl began to listen. Lana came back the next day. And the day after that. Slowly, carefully, a friendship grew. Lana held her hand when the world felt scary. Lana spoke for her when words wouldn’t come. With Lana, she learned that silence didn’t always mean loneliness. Sometimes it meant safety. Though the little girl remained quiet and cautious, something inside her changed. She discovered that even in a place filled with loss, kindness could still find its way in. One friend was enough. One person seeing you was enough. Years later, she would understand this truth: that even the shyest hearts can survive, that friendship can heal in quiet ways, and that sometimes, one Lana can change the whole story.
